Finding a safe place to land in recovery isn’t always easy, especially when options are limited. When I was looking for the closest sober living near me, I realized that in all of Salem County, there were only two houses available. Our house was the only one in Woodstown.
I was lucky enough to get the master bedroom, which even had its own porch. Having that private space and a breath of fresh air right outside my door made a huge difference in my headspace. Aside from following the house rules, my main responsibility was just getting my own groceries so I could eat and stay healthy.
Because we were the only house in town, I didn’t want to just live there; I wanted to build a community. I made it my mission to fill the house with people who were as serious about their recovery as I was. We weren’t just roommates; we were building a brotherhood in a place where people needed it most.
